PRESS: Yandex faces strongest cyberattack in Runet’s history
MOSCOW, Sep 8 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet company Yandex has encountered the strongest cyberattack in the history of the country’s Internet, business daily Vedomosti reported on Wednesday.
A high-ranking source at Yandex told the daily that on the weekend of September 4–5, the company’s servers saw the strongest DDoS attack on the Runet’s record, the fact which was confirmed by U.S. company Cloudflare, which focuses on cybercrime resistance and partners Yandex.
Another source said the attack is still in progress.
“We’re investigating together with sub-contractors…We’re speaking about a threat to infrastructure on the nationwide scale,” one of the sources at Yandex said.
Yandex officially confirmed the attack, but disclosed no details.
“Yandex truly saw a DDoS attack, which was fought off by our network infrastructure and the system of unwanted requests screening,” an Internet company representative said, adding that the incident did not affect functioning of the services or user data.
